2017 President's Message

"If you don't know where you are going,
you will probably end up somewhere else."

Lawrence Peter (educator and  writer 1919-1988)

The financial world in general has been going through tectonic shifts and the financial planning profession has been along for the ride with it. Meanwhile, the services we provide to Americans are more important and have greater value than ever. We approach clients' lives strategically, making sure they know where they are going so they don't wind up "somewhere else."

We are like beacons on a stormy night — and the last five years have been a very stormy time. We shine through the rain and sleet so that those we serve can find their way to wherever they want to be.

Your chapter's Board of Directors took the principles of financial planning and applied them to our OWN work as a volunteer board. What came of that effort was a short and powerful mission that clearly states WHO we are and WHAT we stand for. It is to...

Personally Support the Community of Those Who are Committed to Financial Planning.

As a board, we will continue to build on the strengths of our chapter which include (but are not limited to): incredible speakers at our quarterly meetings, a culture of camaraderie with fellow professionals — especially helping along those who are new to the financial planning field, our study groups, education and (for those who volunteer to be on the board) plenty of leadership development.

We also realize that we can improve — most notably in your chapter's use of technology, our communication with members (especially on a more personal level) and our mentoring process with new planners (yes, it can be both a strength and an area of improvement).

Every member of our board stands behind this mission. It will be laced through everything we work on this coming year. I encourage you to be a part of the process yourself. Tell us how we can personally support you. Help us reach the broader community of those who are committed to financial planning. Volunteer a little of your time to be on the board, mentor a financial planning student or just enjoy the camaraderie at one of our quarterly meetings.

I look forward to our next year together. We WILL do great things and I am grateful you will be a part of that.

Sincerely,
John D. Buerger, CFP®
